Canadian Bass-baritone Peter Monaghan has captivated audiences across Canada, Europe, and Asia with his stage presence and rich vocal timbre. In the 2023/2024 season, he joined the cast of Razzle Dazzle for Yellowpoint’s Christmas Spectacular, performed the role of Masetto in Don Giovanni with Edmonton Opera, and portrayed Antonio in Pacific Opera Victoria’s Le nozze di Figaro. Additionally, he was the bass soloist in Bach's Magnificat with the Lethbridge Symphony. Looking ahead to the 2024/2025 season, Peter will make his debut as Falke in Die Fledermaus with Edmonton Opera and reprise his role in Yellowpoint’s popular Christmas Revue.


Peter's recent operatic credits include Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Vancouver Opera, Marchese d’Obigny in La traviata with Edmonton Opera, and The Mandarin in Turandot with Vancouver Opera. Other notable roles include Colline in La bohème with both Pacific Opera Victoria and Opera Kelowna, Zuniga in Carmen with Opera Kelowna, and The Father in Hansel and Gretel with Vancouver Opera. His performances have taken him to renowned stages in Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Cuba, and China.


Since finishing his tenure in the Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program with Vancouver Opera, Peter has been consistently recognized for his commitment to his craft. His concert work includes collaborations with major symphonies such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Okanagan Symphony, and Lethbridge Symphony. Beyond opera, Peter has demonstrated his range in musical theatre, with standout performances as Sam Carmichael in Mamma Mia! with Theatre Under the Stars and Peter in Company with United Players Vancouver.


Mr. Monaghan began his musical journey at the University of Lethbridge as a trumpet major before discovering his passion for vocal performance. His transition to vocal arts was sparked by an invitation to sing in the chorus of the University’s production of Die Fledermaus. He later transferred to the University of British Columbia, where he completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Vocal Performance.
