Mezzo-soprano Cassandra Zoe Velasco possesses a “wonderful creamy chocolate voice" that is "expressive, powerful...firm and evenly produced with enviable coloratura." ​She has performed at such illustrious venues as The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Palacio BOZAR, Los Angeles Opera, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Houston Grand Opera and New York City Opera.

At the age of 25 she made her debut at The Metropolitan Opera in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, becoming the youngest Mexican singer to both debut at the company and participate in a Live in HD Met Broadcast. After that assignment, she was hired by the Met for 6 consecutive years, participating in 10 different operatic titles. 

Cassandra’s has collaborated in the world premieres of some of today’s most celebrated composers including Jonah and the Whale by Jack Perla, El pasado nunca se termina and Cruzar la cara de la Luna by Leonard Foglia and Hometown to the World by Laura Kaminsky.  Standard repertoire roles performed include Angelina in La Cenerentola, Isabella in I'taliana in Algeri, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Isolier in Le Comte Ory, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, 1st Lady / 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte,  Carmen/Mercedes in Carmen,  Rodrigo in Donizetti’s Pia de Tolomei, Tamiri in Vivaldi’s l Farnace, Lisinga in Gluck’s Le Cinesi, Charlotte in Werther, Beatriz/Flor in La Hija de Rappaccini, Nicklausse in Les Contes d´Hoffmann,  Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Philomene in Alexanader Bis by Martinu and the title role in Maria de Buenos Aires.

Ms. Velasco represented Mexico in Operalia 2012 in Beijing, the Monserrat Caballé Competition in Spain, Competizione dell’Opera in Germany and the Concurso Internacional de Canto Teatro Colón in Argentina. At the 2011 edition of the Concurso Nacional de Canto Carlo Morelli the jury awarded her with the First Place and 6 more special awards, the most ever awarded in the history of the competition.

Ms. Velasco is a graduate of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at the Los Angeles Opera and SIVAM Mexico.
